Different Type of Gimmick

Weekends for me are sacred. As in I prefer not to touch them to do anything productive. After all when one works hard, one should party hard, right? So after a horrendously stressful week, I was looking forward to a weekend of doing… nothing. Saturday was a thankful respite for me. Spent the entire morning just watching DVD’s and/or sleeping. Afternoon, I went to the gym and the prayer meeting at St. James then dinner with my friends wherein we took over Brother’s Burger.

Now here was the clincher. I was invited to an all-night layout-thon. The objective being was to sit down and finish the souvenir program for the Love of Life Concert. Now here’s a background… the Love of Life Concert is a project of the Singles Apostolate. A member of our SE family had a premature baby named Alyssa. She spent a couple of months at the Neonatal ICU thereby racking up an exhorbitant amount of bills. Unfortunately Alyssa passed away leaving her parents stuck with the tab. This is where we came in. SE cooked up a concert to raise the money and we were tasked with doing the souvenir program.

So there we were, starting work at 1AM at the Villa-Abrille’s household. At the onset, the lazy part of me simply wanted to not go. After all, who works at 1AM on a Saturday night? But anyway off to the allnighter I went. And something amazing simply happened. All my tiredness evaporated when I entered the workroom. Inside were a crack team of layout experts composed of Ines, Pisha, Vic, Iame, Cams, Cicis and Mark. Throughout the night we were doing layouts, talking and laughing. Before I knew it, everything was done and I still wasn’t tired.

I guess this is where the difference lies. We were doing work, yet it was work that made a difference. We were doing something bigger than ourselves. Imagine, I was actually griping about not being able to go out and party that night but I wound up feeling more fulfilled and happy. Again, I was reminded of something someone told me… you’ll be happiest when you think about others more than yourself. And true enough! Here’s to more gimmicks of this sort! And here’s to the Love of Life Concert on July 15! If you want tickets just e-mail me.

Okay now back to some real work.
